What Photo Metadata Should I Remove Before Sharing?

Photo metadata is not one single field. GPS coordinates, camera information, author fields and copyright metadata have different privacy and workflow implications.

GPS is the clearest privacy risk

If location should not travel with a photo, remove GPS coordinates before sharing the file.

Camera fields can identify equipment

Make, model, lens and serial-style EXIF fields can reveal which equipment produced the image.

Copyright metadata may be worth keeping

For publishing or professional delivery, artist and copyright fields can be useful rather than something to strip automatically.

  • Remove GPS only when that is enough
  • Remove camera fields separately
  • Strip everything only when the destination does not need metadata
Do it now, not one file at a time.Open metadata cleanup →
