How to Fix “Image File Too Large” Upload Errors

“File too large” is not an editing problem; it is a limit-matching problem. Find the ceiling, then target below it.

Find the actual ceiling

The error message, upload field, or help text usually states a maximum KB or MB value. Use that number as the target instead of repeatedly exporting at random quality settings.

Target below the maximum

A ceiling is safer than trying to hit an exact byte count. Small differences in image encoding can move the final size, so leave a little headroom below the stated maximum.

Keep dimensions unless necessary

For JPEG-like output, Batch Img Tools first reduces quality and only scales dimensions further when needed to hit the target. If the destination also imposes exact pixels, set those dimensions explicitly before exporting.
